Coach Pitch All-Star Selection Process (5U)

A group tryout will be completed in the 5U age group for all interested players. The top 10-11 players will make the team based on combination of Mustang Coach and independent assessor’s scores.

NOTE: Based on growth in interest in this program we fielded two teams last Summer. If there is continued growth in interest for this program, we will adjust the selction process to more closely resemble the other coach pitch age groups.

This program will follow the 6U-8U process based on overall interest.

Coach Pitch All-Star Selection Process (6U-7U) and 8U Broncos

Mustang Selection Process

• Mustang All-Star Coach Rates All Players trying out based on Select and Rec performance during Spring Season of that year. Top 6 rated players receive an automatic lock on the Mustangs. In order to be automatically locked:

  •  Player must participate in Select program. (6 players selected, 6 players total).

  • The player must be a number 1, as rated by their current season rec coach below, or be rated number 2 below another top 6 rated player.

  • In the scenario where the player is rated number 2 on their rec team, as rated by their current year head coach, they must also have been rated top 6 overall in the current year rec assessment.

• All recreation head coaches rate players on their teams.

  • Leagues with 4 teams – Rate top 5 players

  • Leagues with 5 teams – Rate top 4 players

  • Leagues with 6 teams – Rate top 4 players

  • Leagues with 7 teams – Rate top 4 players

  • Leagues with 8 teams – Rate top 3 players

• Mustang All-Star Coach plus one independent assessor from outside the age group rates non-locked players in individual or group tryout.

  • Leagues with 4 teams – Non-locked players in top 3 team rankings or top 15 Mustang coach rating will receive individual tryout for Mustangs. Mustang coach can elect to tryout up to top 17, but cannot tryout less than top 15.

  • Leagues with 5 teams – Non-locked players in top 3 team rankings or top 15 Mustang coach rating will receive individual tryout for Mustangs. Mustang coach can elect to tryout up to top 17, but cannot tryout less than top 15.

  • Leagues with 6 teams – Non-locked players in top 3 team rankings or top 15 Mustang coach rating will receive individual tryout for Mustangs. Mustang coach can elect to tryout up to top 17, but cannot tryout less than top 15.

  • Leagues with 7 teams – Non-locked players in top 2 team rankings or top 15 Mustang coach rating will receive individual tryout for Mustangs. Mustang coach can elect to tryout up to top 17, but cannot tryout less than top 15.

  • Leagues with 8 teams – Non-locked players in top 2 team rankings or top 15 Mustang coach rating will receive individual tryout for Mustangs. Mustang coach can elect to tryout up to top 17, but cannot tryout less than top 15.

• Top 3 Overall Players from Mustang Tryout are Locked based on combination of scores from independent assessor and Mustang coach, rec team ranking and Select ranking. (3 players selected, 9 players total)

• Mustang Coach, Independent assessor and board member meet to finalize all team selections for Mustangs at the conclusion of individual tryouts. Head coach determines if he will take 11 or 12 players and is able to select any player rated in the top 3 overall in one of the following categories (Hitting, IF, OF, Throwing and Catching) (Final 2-3 players selected, 11-12 players total)

• Any player who will miss more than one tournament, 3 practices or miss the District or State tournament will not be placed on a Mustang team. The head coach is allowed one veto of a non-selectable player based on travel.

NOTE: Leagues with more than 8 teams will follow 8 team format.

Bronco Selection Process

• Broncos coach named from players not selected to Mustang team. 

• Players that made the Mustang Tryout will receive a lock on the Broncos. (5-6 players selected)

• All players who did not qualify for an individual tryout for Mustangs will be invited to an individual tryout for Broncos.

• Top 3 Overall Players from Broncos Tryout are Locked based on combination of scores from independent assessor and Bronco’s coach, rec team ranking and Select ranking. (3 players selected, 8-9 players total)

• Bronco’s Coach, Independent assessor and board member meet to finalize all team selections for Broncos at the conclusion of individual tryouts. Head coach determines if he will take 11 or 12 players and is able to select any player rated in the top 3 overall in one of the following categories (Hitting, IF, OF, Throwing and Catching) (Final 2-3 players selected, 11-12 players total)

Kid Pitch All-Star Selection Process (9U-12U) and 8U Select

Players selected to the Select team for their age group, and in good standing with that team, receive an automatic invite to the All-Star team for that age group. Select team selection is based off rec or individual assessment depending on age group, conditions and interest. Good standing is based on practice and game attendance. Documented record of consistently missing practice and games for any reason will be brought to the board for reivew and upon review, allow Select player to be dropped from team.

Players not selected to the Select team for their age group that want to try out for the All-Star team will be invited to an individual tryout. Top ranked players from the individual tryout based on combination of coaches and independent assessor’s scores will receive the final spots on the team.

Kid Pitch All-Star Selection Process (13U-16U)

Group tryouts will be conducted if there is enough interest in these age groups. Top ranked players from the individual tryout based on combination of coaches and independent assessor’s scores will receive the final spots on the team.
